Class Gift
Our 50th Reunion Committee has selected
The Howard A. Latta Scholarship Fund
as the recipient of our class gift.
Longtime WGHS principal, Howard Latta, believed strongly in all forms of higher education beyond high school. The non-profit fund named in his honor grants modest scholarships to worthy Webster students who are college-bound, as well as those seeking vocational and other training. Last spring 11 graduating seniors received a total of $40,000 to help with their college and technical training.
The Latta Fund is a 501(c)3 entity; contributions are tax-deductible. Your current or former employer may match some or all of your contribution.
Two Latta Fund success stories:
1) Soon after the Fund was established (1968), a student received a scholarship for cosmetology school. That student completed the course and has since gone on to open, own and operate two salons in St. Louis. He is now a very successful small businessman.
2) More recent is the story of a WGHS senior, the son of a single parent raising her children alone. His mother lost her home due to financial reversals, and had to take refuge in a family shelter. Because the boy was 18, he was not eligible to live in the shelter with his mother and siblings. He had a job and lived in a car, while attending WGHS full-time. Upon graduation, he received a generous scholarship to attend UMSL and live on campus. He is currently a junior in college and doing well.
Are we, the class of 1963, up to a challenge of $63,000?

Growing up in Webster Groves, we experienced a strong sense of community. Our community--neighbors, scout leaders, churches, and our high school--nurtured and prepared us to become productive citizens. Please consider expressing your gratitude and sharing your success with a future graduate of Webster Groves High School. You can do that by making a contribution to the Howard A. Latta Scholarship Fund.
You might consider a gift of $500 ($10 for each of your 50 years out) or $630 for our class numeral. Pay it Forward. Howard A. Latta Scholarship Fund, Inc. P.O. Box 31124 St. Louis, MO 63131 Please put “Class of 1963” on your check and your birth name. A gift of securities may yield additional tax benefits through the avoidance of capital gains.
