55th Reunion of Class of '63 Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at the Ozark Theatre A delicious aroma of real popcorn...screams as Rodan flies across the screen...eating Sno-caps & Jujubes...holding hands and "necking." What are your memories? This 1920s movie palace has been completely renovated and reborn as the Webster Groves Concert Hall. Today it is a funky party setting with groups of small tables, space for a combo, and loads of nostalgia. Watch for more details on this fun, casual weekend back in the 'hood. Bob Gentry died March 16, 2018 of complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). His obit has been posted.
We recently learned that our computer guru, Jerry Zimmer, (husband of Val Barrow) has had a stroke and is in rehab. He is doing well. We wish him a continued speedy recovery.
The WGHS Class of '63 has raised $63,695 to date for the Latta Fund. In the four years since our 50th reunion, steady support in gift amounts from $5 to $5,000, has come in. In November of 2017 an anonymous donor, who wishes to remain so, issued a matching-gift challenge of $5,000 to get us over the goal line. Our class met this challenge December 31.
A word about that donor, who helped put us over the top: She is a hard-working and successful single parent who did not attend college. She says she really wishes that there had been assistance back in 1963 such as LATTA now provides, to help her with college or technical school. Her donation is her very thoughtful way of helping those students who need similar support today. The number of LATTA Scholarships offered today has increased greatly since ’63 launched its campaign in 2013. They died in 2002 and 2011 but obits were just located online.
